STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WHTM) – The family of legendary coach Joe Paterno has released the following statement after his death Sunday morning:

It is with great sadness that we announce that Joe Paterno passed away earlier today. His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled.

He died as he lived. He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been. His ambitions were far reaching, but he never believed he had to leave this Happy Valley to achieve them. He was a man devoted to his family, his university, his players and his community.

He has been many things in his life – a soldier, scholar, mentor, coach, friend and father. To my mother he was and is her soul mate, and the last several weeks have shown the strength of their love. To his children and grandchildren he is a shining example of how to live a good, decent and honest life, a standard to which we aspire.

When he decided to forego a career in law and make coaching his vocation, his father Angelo had but one command: make an impact.

As the last 61 years have shown, Joe made an incredible impact. That impact has been felt and appreciated by our family in the form of thousands of letters and well wishes along with countless acts of kindness from people whose lives he touched. It is evident also in the thousands of successful student athletes who have gone on to multiply that impact as they spread out across the country.

And so he leaves us with a peaceful mind, comforted by his achieving legacy, his five kids, 17 grandchildren, and hundreds of young men whose lives he changed in more ways than can begin to be counted.

I couldn’t not make a comment on this.  My heart is broken today…mourning the loss of a man I’ve only met once.  It wouldn’t seem to make sense to outsiders, but to those that are part of the Penn State family are mourning the loss of Joe Paterno as if our own grandfather has passed.

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, JoePa’s name took a lot of heat, but we stood behind him.  We would have always stood behind him.  The announcement of his “treatable” lung cancer was sad, but we thought he’d beat it.  We were sure he’d beat it.  New reports of JoePa’s deteriorating health saddened the Penn State family but we didn’t think it was at the end.  Saturday 1/21/12, Joe Paterno, after being in the hospital for a week, was taken off of a respirator and was listed in grave condition.  Sunday, 1/22/12, around 10AM, he passed away.

Words can’t express the sadness the Penn State family is feeling right now.  This post wasn’t planned but it’s necessary to at least put it out there.  Thank you, Joe Paterno, for being who you were and what you “gave” to all of us.  You’ll forever be part of our memory.  Legends never die.

5 Steps To Embracing Your Single Self In 2012 « Thought Catalog.

My additions to the 5 steps:

1)  I will say goodbye to my toxic “special friend”.  Seriously.  I need to realize he’s a douche-a-rino.

2.  I want to run a 5k.  I realize that sounds pathetic…but with a smoking habit and asthma (shut up h8rs…), I can barely run to catch the pizza delivery guy.  And I’d like to learn about photography.  And blog more.

3.  I would like these friends:  vodka-y, hippie, republican-y(so i can say i have diversity in my life), veggie, and finally:  rich-y 😉

4.  I am YOUNG!  stupid pressure to settle down.  i swear, if you are my friend on facebook, you will get engaged/married/pop out spawn in the next calendar year.  lucky you for being friends with me.

5.  It took me a long time to get to a place where I can say I’m comfortable with who I am.  I’m still not lavishly in love with myself but I’m happy with where my life is headed and how things are panning out.  I’m being conscious…and conscientious.  To thine own self be true.  I’m living it.  ❤

I realize that organ and tissue donations is a complex issue that most people have serious moral and ethical issues with. Being an organ and tissue donor is a personal choice that is made by you individually. Coming from a family that has been blessed by organ and tissue donors (my sister has had 2 heart transplants and a kidney transplant), the story I’m going to link here breaks my heart. A girl with a mental disability is being denied a kidney transplant at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) due to her condition. I’m going to attach the link to a petition that can be signed that will be forwarded along to CHOP. The story is now receiving national media attention. If you don’t agree with organ/tissue donation, that’s fine, it’s your choice. If you do support it, please take the 3 seconds to sign the petition. The attention that this case is receiving could eventually change the transplant ethics board’s mind at CHOP…which could save this little girl’s life.
